We restored this car in 2006. This MG Midget had been left languishing in a friend's garage for over 10 years. It was his first car so he couldn't bring himself to part with it, but didn't have the time to fix it (a familiar story). Finally his wife made it clear - 'the MG has to go!' So I took it on as a restoration project.
During the restoration we carried out the following structural repairs.
New inner and outer sill on both sides.
New 'A' pillars both sides.
Rear wing repairs.
Repairs to the sill ends and some small repairs to the floor.
The wings and doors are in good condition and did not need any additional work.
The car was taken back to bare metal and resprayed the original British racing green.
We stripped out the interior and renovated all of the interior panels. We had a couple of small tears in the driver's seat properly repaired. We put in new carpets and refitted the interior using complementary brass trim cups and screws.
The car also has a motolita woodrim steering wheel and matching wooded gear knob.
We also replaced the fuel pump and sections of the fuel line that had perished.
We removed the cylinder head and checked the pistons which were still tight with little sign of wear.
I had the cylinder head re-faced and the valves re-seated with new valve guides.
We then refitted the cylinder head with a good quality gasket (not the rubbish you get in a gasket set!). The wheels have been shot blasted and powder coated and then hand finished, a set of new chrome wheel nuts sets them off well. The car has a new set of tyres. The hood is in good condition and the car also has both ½ and full tonneaucovers and comes with a detachable boot rack. We fitted new wing mirrors, headlight surrounds, number plates and a lockable fuel filler cap. .
